Topps Heritage Minors and a Cubs Gift
My boxes of 2018 Topps Heritage Minors arrived on Thursday, and they were busted open over the course of four days. The last two boxes were opened Sunday morning and the final Cubs count was 85.
Unfortunately, none of the Cubs pulls were parallels other than a pair of glossy fronts. But, my boxes yielded some great hits overall and I am very happy with what was pulled.
The two glossy fronts feature Jose Albertos and Adbert Alzolay. I am a big fan of these packs instead of the ad panels. Each box has a pack of three glossy front parallels.
Two Cubs were featured in the Deckle Edge Insert set. I love these Deckles. Again, Adbert Alzolay is here.
And Jose Albertos. Both players I pulled in glossy parallels.
My favorite of the nine base cards is Aramis Ademan. The young shortstop doesn't have too many cards yet, and I'm a fan of the powder blue Myrtle Beach Pelicans uniform.
Nelson Velazquez is another youngster that doesn't have many cards, if any, that I know of. The outfielder is featured with the AZL Cubs on this card.
Bat over shoulder pictures are among my favorites. Here's another one featuring Charcer Burks.
Oscar De La Cruz has the camo jersey.
Adbert Alzolay is arguable the top pitching prospect in the organization, but missed most of 2018 with an injury.
Another top pitching prospect is Albertos.
A pair of pitchers were drafted in the first round by the Cubs in 2017. The first was Brendon Little with the 27th pick.
Alex Lange of LSU was taken with the 30th pick.
How great is it that six of the nine players featured in the Cubs set are pitchers. That position has been lacking down on the farm for quite a while. Dakota Mekkes is the ninth player featured as he shares a card with Jon Duplantier and Merandy Gonzalez for Minor League Baseball's 2017 league leaders for ERA. Mekkes, pitching for Myrtle Beach, topped the list with a 0.98 ERA.
One bubble mailer arrived in my mailbox Saturday. It was from Robert in Corpus Christi, Texas. He sent 13 Cubs cards out of kindness. Thanks so much! There are a few highlights here including the Heritage High Number ad panel that features two Cubs: Tommy LaStella and Tyler Chatwood.
A Heritage High Number hit was included with a Brandon Morrow Chrome Refractor /569.
And a Yu Darvish 2018 Bowman Chrome purple /250. This is my first 2018 Bowman Chrome Cubs card!
Robert also sent some other Cubs.
