Minis and Steel in Friday's Mailday
A couple of Twitter packages arrived Friday. Matthew in Grand Rapids, Michigan shipped more than 400 Cubs cards, and Kurt in Detroit sent 61 cards.
Matthew is one of my Royals traders and this is our third deal. I'll be sending a nice package of Royals and plenty of Mark Gubizca cards.
He tossed in a foursome of 1975 Topps minis of Billy Grabarkewitz, Bill Madlock, Don Kessinger, and Ken Frailing. This is one of the most colorful sets all time, and the mini version is a set I'm missing several cards from, so I may have to go Sportlots shopping.
Many people despise the unlicensed cards of the 1980's and early 1990's. I am not in that camp, I love these cards. They are commonly known as Broder cards named after photographers Ed and Rob Broder. Most unlicensed cards are not actual Broder (Broder photographs) cards. These two unlicensed cards of Ryne Sandberg and Andre Dawson are cards I didn't already have.
I don't recall having this 2016 Topps Heritage Rookie Performers Kyle Schwarber.
Here's another newbie, it's a 2018 Topps Opening Day foil of Jose Quintana.
Love me some Javy Baez!
On to some steel. These are new to me. First, a 1996 Leaf Steel Ryne Sandberg. It is made of some type of metal, certainly not cardboard.
Mark Grace gets the steel treatment on a 1998 Topps Stars 'n Steel.
Kurt sent over 61 cards from the past couple years. David Bote rookie!
Jose Quintana 2018 Topps Chrome Prism Refractor.
This is a 2018 Topps Mother's Day Insert of Ian Happ with a great story on the back. His mother was visiting him when he was playing with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs when he received a promotion to Chicago. Mom followed Ian to the Windy City.
Thomas Hatch was the Cubs first draft pick in 2016 as a third rounder. He appears here on a Bowman Platinum prospects card.
Another Bowman Platinum from my favorite prospect not in the Cubs system: Dylan Cease.
Starlin Castro made his Major League debut on May 7, 2010. Castro drove in six runs in that game against the Cincinnati Reds.
