California Knows How To Cubby
The first Cubs package from California in 2019 came on Monday. Thanks to @jcurveball on Twitter for a nice box of Cubs cards.
He will be getting a box of Dodgers soon. The box originated in Stockton, California, and I’ve spent some time there. When I worked in the athletics department at Western Illinois University we played at University of the Pacific (alma mater of former #1 overall pick Michael Olowokandi).
The trip isn’t very memorable, other than it was much warmer there in December then back home in Illinois. I also remember the long travel time and eating an extremely late dinner at a Benigan’s. And we lost the game.
These Cubs cards from Stockton will go down as much more memorable, as he sent some sweet cards. Always enjoy receiving Topps Pro Debut, as I only acquire them in trades or the occasional Sportlots purchase.
A couple of in-person or TTM autographs of Arismendy Alcantara and Derrick May.
Two new Kris Bryant cards. Topps Fire is such a sweet set, and these blue parallels really pop.
Another new addition is this Starlin Castro from 2015 Gypsy Queen.
The 100 Years of Wrigley subset from Topps is my all-time favorite insert set. Here’s a card from that set of President Ronald Reagan. This photo was taken on September 30, 1988. That’s Harry Caray to Reagan’s left. President Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois, which is about 20 minutes from my hometown. It was such a big deal as a kid...mainly because Reagan was President when I was a kid. Now it’s just another forgotten small town.
Some Carl Edwards Jr. hits including a Bowman Chrome Autograph and a Bowman Platinum purple parallel.
A Corey Patterson hit. If this isn’t my first Corey Patterson jersey Relic, it’s defintely the nicest in my “CPatt” collection. There’s a nice blue pinstripe on the jersey swatch. The card does have Patterson listed as Orioles, where he played after Chicago, but he’s still pictured in a Cubs uniform.
