The Boys of Zimmer: 30 Year Anniversary Series - February 6, 1989
While recently blogging about a random Cubs pitcher, Pat Perry, I became immersed in articles from 1988 and 1989. This is the 30th anniversary of the 1989 Cubs "Boys of Zimmer," a team that reached the postseason after a five year hiatus. This daily series will look back at Chicago Tribune articles and columns from 30 years ago, day by day.

The February 6, 1989 issue of the Chicago Tribune provided some interesting odds & ins, the column title of Linda Kay and Mike Conklin. First, a juicy tidbit of Cubs players' aliases at the hotel for the Cubs Convention that had just taken place.

And there was a baseball and autograph piece featuring the soaring prices of the 1989 Fleer "F*** Face" Billy Ripken card along with the autograph prices for Jose Canseco and brother Ozzie.

Rafael Palmeiro had been traded to the Texas Rangers prior to the 1989 season.

An article in the Tampa Tribune mentions he will miss playing for the Cubs.
