Boys of Zimmer: 30th Anniversary Series - 2/10/1989
While recently blogging about a random Cubs pitcher, Pat Perry, I became immersed in articles from 1988 and 1989. This is the 30th anniversary of the 1989 Cubs "Boys of Zimmer," a team that reached the postseason after a five year hiatus. This daily series will look back at Chicago Tribune articles and columns from 30 years ago, day by day.
This following Letter to the Editor in Provo, Utah from 1989 seems appropriate. Who would have thought that 30 years into the future, 2019, that residents of Provo, Utah would have an easier time watching Chicago Cubs baseball than someone living 90 minutes from Chicago in Kewanee, Illinois (thanks, MLB Blackout Rules!). Get your stuff together, Major League Baseball. Blackout rules are ridiculous, and it's partly the reason baseball is becoming less popular than other sports.
