Mailday Spanning 1951 Bowman to 2019 Donruss

A full mailbox was waiting for me Friday afternoon at the post office. Three boxes were inside that included more than 3,000 cards spanning from 1951 Bowman to 2019 Donruss.

One package was unexpected and it came from a childhood friend, Brandon, in Annawan, Illinois. I recounted some memories about collecting with Brandon in my Earl Cunnigham blog. Ironically, the day I unexpectedly received a package from Brandon was the same day I mailed out a letter and cards to Earl Cunningham in hopes of a TTM success (I saw one posted in a Facebook group last week).

Brandon sent a bunch of 2019 Donruss, all new to my collection and the first 2019 Donruss I have laid eyes upon this year.

Donruss doesn’t really do it for me in terms of the base set, but I do like and enjoy the product. Behold your eyes on Javier Baez in Diamond Kings form. If I had three wishes for Cubs cards, one would likely be this very card. A beauty in the 1985 Donruss design. I’m not one of those “I hate the no logos” guys, but can you imagine how much this card would pop with a bright blue helmet with a “C” in the middle!

Look at this! Kris Bryant aerial numbered 3/49. Very nice!

Some more 2019 new additions to my collection from Topps - Kris Bryant and Mark Grace.

Another new card for my collection and it’s Javy! 2019 Topps Heritage Then and Now Insert with Baez and Bench.

Jen-Ho Tseng reverse negative from 2018 Topps Chrome.

Ian Happ Topps Fire serial numbered 56/199. Bummer that Happ is starting the year in Des Moines, but probably not a bad move considering his batting average this spring is a few points below this card’s serial number.

Ed in Baltimore sent another box and his are always great. Ed packs them full of vintage and oddballs. The oldest card is a 1951 Bowman Hank Sauer!

A couple 1960 Fleer Cubs of Johnny Evers and Rogers Hornsby.

Ernie!!! Whoah, a 1969 Topps Banks.

A small pile of 1953 Topps including Toby Atwell, Bob Schultz, Dutch Leonard, Paul Minner, and Turk Lown.

1965 Topps Cubs rookie stars of Billy Ott and Jack Warner was on my need list.

Independence Day Parallel of Ben Zobrist from 2018 Topps. This is numbered 25/76.

Mike in Bloomington, Illinois shipped a flat rate box filled with 2,538 Cubs cards. A new oddball is this Rick Sutcliffe Meadow Gold.

Another new oddball and it goes in the Ernie Banks collection. This is from 1982.

Bill Madlock oddball from 1975 is another new oddball.

Hey, a Luis Salazar autograph on a 1991 Fleer.

Not sure what this is. An unopened pack of Cubs. Casey McGehee is on the front and the back shows Brandon Sing and his card is 5 of 5.

Couple large stacks of Tennessee Smokies cards from 2015 and 2016.

My first 2010 Bowman Gold Starlin Castro rookie.

Some Bowman Chrome refractors of Alex Lange, Brendon Little, Trevor Clifton, and Cory Abbott.

Another great mailday, and I need to catch up on trades!
