Cubs Baseball Cards from California
A pair of California packages came in the mail on Monday. In total, 660 more Cubs cards were added to my Chicago Cubs baseball card collection, moving past 301,000 cards.
Bill from El Centro sent a stack of Cubs that included some 1988 Score Update like this Vance Law card.
Early Score cards seem to have a lot of haters. I love them, and it’s probably because of sentimental reasons. I faintly recall opening packs of 1988 Topps football and 1988 Donruss. I would spend my allowance on 1989 Topps and Bowman, and opened several packs. But I just can’t recall the act of opening those packs. However, I recall my dad buying me a pack or two of 1989 Score from our local IGA grocery store. We then went to one of his friends’ house where they talked about building things, which bored me to no end as a seven year old. I recall opening that pack of Score while sitting in his S-10 pickup truck just hoping he would be ready to go soon. It’s funny how some things we remember.
Ben from Kelseyville sent more than 600 Cubs baseball cards in a familiar box...
I love the recycling of old baseball card boxes! Inside were some sweet cards, and I’ve always had a soft spot for Topps Heritage. This Kerry Wood 2002 Topps Heritage card is a work of art.
When the product was launched I was in college and “too cool” for baseball cards. Man, I wish I would have spent my dollars on Topps Heritage in 2002 rather than pitchers of Keystone Light at the Change of Pace in Macomb, Illinois. Well, maybe not...I had a lot of fun!
This Corey Patterson Chrome is a beauty and it’s numbered 354/553.
A young Starlin Castro on his first Bowman card from 2009.
Another chrome and its Nomar Garciaparra on this 2004 Topps Chrome. By this point in my college life I began the night at Parkside Sports Bar before walking over to the Pace. Parkside was the place I saw the Garciaparra trade scroll at the bottom of ESPN.
Thanks Ben and Bill, and I’ll get return packages out this weekend!
