Mike Bielecki Wednesday
I named a blog post after Mitch Webster, so why not. Plus, Bielecki is a fun name to say. Two packages were received on Wednesday, filled with more than 1,200 Chicago Cubs baseball cards thanks to Kevin in New York and Josh in Seattle.
Josh’s package was a perfect example of taking full advantage of sending volume at a low postage price thanks to USPS flat rate mailers. He sent 1,003 Cubs cards inside a flat rate bubble mailer. By using a PayPal shipping label the postage cost is only $7.55. To get the cards inside, he used a pair of old Topps vending boxes that hold 500 cards. Full disclosure: most of the cards were from the 1980’s and early 1990’s meaning you can fit more cards in these boxes because they are not on thick stock like many of today’s cards.
Mike Bielecki Baseball Card Count: 23. How can you not love that 1989 Topps design? I think I appreciate it more every year. 1990 Donruss on the other hand...not so much.
A few 2019 Cubs baseball cards were included, like this Gypsy Queen Kris Bryant.
Going back to old designs, I may have to rank my favorite 80’s products by each set. I’ll give you a preview here on Fleer. I love 1983 Fleer. Why? It has that tan/light brown border. It’s simple. For me, I think it’s because the bright blue and red Cubs logo really pops within that light brown border. And here’s a hat tip to one of the most awesome mustaches in the history of Major League Baseball: Dick Tidrow.
I don’t recall ever seeing this 1999 Skybox Thunder Kerry Wood insert card. The “233” represents how many strikeouts “Kid K” had during his 1998 Rookie of the Year campaign.
Upper Deck had jumped the shark in baseball cards by 2000, however this Chad Meyers Futuristics card from Ionix is pretty sweet.
Some shiny! It’s a Juan Pierre refractor from 2006 Bowman Chrome.
