Beer With an All Star, and What Is an Elegant Baseball Card
More repeat traders sent in Cubs that were delivered Wednesday. Mark in Memphis sent a box of 180 Cubs cards, and we have done about a half dozen trades now.
By the way, Mark is a Cardinals collector and is a great trader. He frequents Trading Card Database, and can find him at mzentko on the website. Trading Card Database is a site that I wanted to use much more in 2019, but that part of my project has been tabled due to time constraints. Maybe, 2020, we shall see.
Inside Mark's box was a 2003 Topps Gold Dave Veres numbered 751/2003. Veres is one of those forgotten Cubs, and that's probably because he only appeared in 31 games for the Cubs in 2003.
Another 2003 Topps card features Mike Remlinger. Remlinger is probably most known as an Atlanta Brave, where he was named a National League All Star in 2002. Remlinger pitched for the Cubs in 2003, 2004, and 2005.
Remlinger and I had a beer together at Club 400 just last week.
Ian Happ got the call back to Chicago today. He really struggled in the big leagues early on and was demoted to Des Moines where those struggles continued. But Happ figured something out as he has been on fire in recent weeks earning the call.
Always love refractors. Here's a 2008 Bowman Chrome refractor Justin Bristow. Unfortunately, Bristow, a fifth round draft pick by the Cubs in 2008, peaked in the Midwest League for the Peoria Chiefs.
Man, this was the card I wanted in 1991. George Bell was a superstar when I started following baseball and got into card collecting. He was a long-time Toronto Blue Jay, until he signed with the Cubs and appeared in some 1991 baseball cards like this Stadium Club.
Allen & Ginter was just released and it's such an elegant design. Can baseball cards be considered elegant? Look at this 2006 Allen & Ginter Kerry Wood. It looks elegant to me.
Sean in Maryland sent 50 Cubs cards. For some reason, the 1989 Topps Don Zimmer card just takes me back to my youth. Oh, and that 1988 Topps Traded Ty Griffin. One of my favorites.
