Cubs Cards Upon My Return From Door County

Returns from vacation typically yield some full mailboxes, and that was the case again this past Monday.

I spent a long weekend in Door County, Wisconsin. Door County is a peninsula that sits between Green Bay and Lake Michigan. It’s known for small towns, little shops, and picturesque scenery. And a restaurant that has goats on its grass covered roof.

Five packages awaited me upon my return. A Massachusetts box came with 115 Cubs baseball cards including the likes of Gary Scott, Hector Villanueva, Marvell Wynne, and Rick Wrona.

Jeff from Split Season fame sent a nice package of vintage. He shipped out nine Cubs cards including a couple Deckle Edge Don Kessinger and Ron Santo. In return I sent a 1971 Kellogg’s Glenn Ray Hines.

Ben in California sent 25 Cubs cards from the 2000’s that included some of the fan favorites. Mark DeRosa, Ryan Theriot, and Mike Fontenot were among fan favorites on the team in the mid-2000’s.

Tim in Texas sent another box of cards (second box of Cubs cards from Tim). He included a note about some autographed Cubs cards. Holy Cow! A stack of Cubs autographed cards including a 1992 Topps Turk Wendell rookie.

Kevin Blankenship from 1990 Bowman.

Ooooh, Doug Glanville. Doug joins Len Kasper and Jim Deshais on select Cubs television broadcasts. This is a 1994 Upper Deck minor league.

Drew Hall times two on 1989 Upper Deck.

A couple of 1988 Paul Noce signed cards.

Laddie Renfroe on a 1991 Line Drive minor league card.

Fernando Ramsey in red ink on a 1993 Upper Deck.

Another red ink. This is a 1991 Topps Greg Smith.

Gary Varsho on 1989 Fleer and 1989 Score.

A great name and fan favorite from the early 1990’s: Hector Villanueva.

Rick Wrona 1990 Topps.

My favorite! Absolutely love this 1990 Topps Jerome Walton card. Walton also has a phenomenal signature.

Also in Tim’s box was a new Ryne Sandberg to my collection. This is a 1992 Panini Sticker.

Finally, Glen sent another #NAFTA package my way! This pack included a pair of Kyle Hendricks refractors from 2019 Topps Chrome. Here’s a Sepia and regular Refractor.

From this year’s Topps Finest it’s a new Javier Baez card.

How about this. A Ryne Sandberg rookie in sticker form. The 1983 Topps Sticker Sandberg.

An Andre Dawson Autograph!!!

And look at this autograph. Jorge Soler is having quite the season with his power numbers this year for the Kansas City Royals. Here’s a Soler 2015 Panini Immaculate Collection Rookie Autograph numbered 8/25.
