Stack of 1956 Cubs Cards and a Case Hit
A medium flat rate box arrived on Wednesday. It was expected. The contents inside...certainly not what I was expecting.
Andrew in New York is a Ryan McMahon super collector. In 2018, Andrew and I made several trades. It’s been a while since we made a deal, but I always had a McMahon pile stashed away just in case.
He reached out to me a few weeks ago and said he had a Cubs package to send my way and he indeed was still collecting Ryan McMahon cards.
This exchange just so happened to be in the days leading up to the National, so Ryan McMahon was another target for trade partners. I came home with a big stack of McMahon and sent Andrew’s way.
Initially he sent a small package of some great cards, and said he was filling up a flat rate box that’ll be coming. It came and it did not disappoint.
One of the first stacks of Cubs baseball cards I began flipping through included not just one new Javier Baez card I needed, but a whole slew of them. This is the 2019 Topps National Baseball Card Day card(s).
Unfortunately, the only local card shop in my area that participated in the National Baseball Card Day program was flooded last year and closed. There was another National Baseball Card Day card.....an autograph of David Bote! And it’s numbered 227/400.
The hits kept coming. A Jason Heyward jersey relic from 2019 Topps.
A 2019 Donruss Optic Javier Baez numbered 48/60.
A couple of Sammy Sosa goodies including a 1993 Topps Gold and 2002 Upper Deck jersey Relic with a blue pinstripe.
From 2019 Topps Heritage, a Kris Bryant cloth sticker.
A huge stack of vintage! Look at all of these 1956 Topps Cubs cards. Names like: Hobie Landrith, Eddie Miksis, Warren Hacker, Sam Jones, Russ Meyer, Paul Minner, Gene Baker, Bob Speake, Bill Tremel, Jim Davis, and Dee Fondy.

And he told me there was a “case hit” envelope and to open last. A 2011 Bowman Platinum Trey McNutt 1/1 canary Refractor. At first I thought it was a superfractor (I do not have a superfractor in my Cubs collection), but someone on Twitter filled me in this particular card is a 1/1 canary, and 2011 was the only year they had both canary and superfractor 1/1 cards.
What an awesome package! I’ve already been building another pile of Ryan McMahon cards for a future trade.
