Using Other Teams To Bridge Bulk Trades
About a month ago I reached out via Twitter asking my trade partners, or potential trade partners, that I would be accepting other team cards that I had run low on.
This weekend at the Chicago Sports Spectacular a big bulk trade will be completed with Steve. I'll be swapping monster boxes of Astros, Diamondbacks, and Nationals for Cubs baseball cards. Unfortunately, leading up to this trade I was very low on Nationals and Diamondbacks. Additionally, a previous bulk trade wiped me out of Colorado Rockies cards.
The last of these cards I was seeking arrived just in time this week from Brad in Indianapolis. His box was filled with Rockies, Nationals, and Diamondbacks as well as 50 more Cubs cards.
Not only did this trade add plenty of other teams to assist in my bulk trade, I picked through it finding several cards that will be going in multiple other trades. It's helped out receiving Rockies cards because I pick out Ryan McMahon and Garrett Hampson cards for @SoCalHobby and @BigShep79.
A couple other trades that will be completed soon have collectors seeking Todd Helton and Paul Goldschmidt.
Victor Robles was also plentiful in this box. Robles is one of the 2018 rookies that I have been setting aside. I bought a bunch of 2018 Topps Update and Chrome Update, so I've just been stacking rookies from those sets including Robles. Other rookie cards I've been setting aside include Gleyber Torres, Shohei Ohtani, and Ozzie Albies. Ronald Acuna and Juan Soto were mostly sold on eBay throughout the baseball season.
This is a Cubs baseball card blog after all, so we must get to the Cubs cards that were included. A trip of 1970's cards from 1972 Topps Glenn Beckert in action, 1975 Topps MVPs with Ernie Banks, and 1977 Topps Batting Leaders with Bill Madlock (and George Brett).
Ernie Banks! I really like the layout of the 2019 Topps Franchise Feats. At first glance I thought the feats would be Ernie Banks feats. No, they are Chicago Cubs stats.
Did you know Jon Garland got his start in the Chicago Cubs minor league system? He would go on to star on the other side of town with the White Sox, but it all began on the north side. Garland was a Cubs first round draft pick in 1997. He was traded to the White Sox during the 1998 season for Matt Karchner, and the rest is history.
