Christmas Week Cubs Maildays
Holidays always sneak up on me, even though I see them coming on the calendar. "I'm gonna get this done, do this, and this, and that," are thoughts as a holiday approaches.
It was all the same as Christmas came and went. Having both Christmas Eve and Christmas day off work, there were several hobby-related tasks I set out to mark off my list. Most of them did not get checked off.
Here we are at New Year's Eve, and instead of tackling a new list, I'm playing catch up on last week's mail days. My Cubs baseball card mail days have been trickling in slowly as of late as my hobby focus shifts. More on that this week in my hobby goals blog post.
A big mail day came from up the road in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin from Matt. Nearly 2,000 Cubs baseball cards was a nice little push to the 400,000 goal I set for the year 2019. This box came loaded with both quality and quantity.
All told, that large flat rate gaming box contained 2,379 Cubs baseball cards. One box had a really nice 1967 Topps Ernie Banks at the top.
Another vintage Cubs cards was inside. An old Bowman from 1951 of Hank Sauer.
New stuff, too. Javier Baez 2019 Panini Prizm.
Prospects were covered, as well. Like Nico Hoerner. A 2019 Bowman Platinum Prismatic Prodigies.
From 2018 Topps Gallery, a Hall of Fame Ryne Sandberg insert card.
I'm not sure what this card is. It's a bit smaller than a standard size card, and reminds me of a box bottom. Perhaps this 1987 Topps Ron Cey is a box bottom. It is a cut out, and it's numbered, "C."
I don't really remember these 2003 Fleer Platinum Prospects cards. Nobody really remembers Nic Jackson or John Webb, either. But...I do like the modern (well, modern for 15+ years ago) '88 Fleer take.
A couple of 2009 Bowman Chrome Jovan Rosa blue refractors. This box alone covers numbers 22/150 and 55/150. Only 148 copies needed.
Sharon in Oklahoma sent me a box with 100 Cubs cards. She will be getting a nice box of Braves in the mail soon.
Chris in Arkansas sent a box of 44 Cubs cards including a couple formerly hot Cubs rookie cards - 1985 Topps Shawon Dunston and 1989 Upper Deck Jerome Walton.
Only one more mailday post left of 2019. My how quickly this year went. Some significant changes are coming with my approach to the project in 2020. Stay tuned for the blog post coming New Year's Day.
