The Cubs Baseball Card Hits Keep Coming

Some exciting Cubs baseball card hits arrived in the mailbox on Tuesday. Three packages came, and there were some nice additions from each, including several new Cubs cards added to my collection.

The three packages combined to bring in a bunch of Mark Grace baseball cards, and my 2020 count of Grace cards now numbers 89. Grace is the top player card received in the first seven days of the year. Ryne Sandberg also jumped into the top five with Andre Dawson, Damon Berryhill, and Les Lancaster.

Of the Grace cards received, three new ones came from Scott in Florida. Three of them are from 1988 Star and are the orange border cards.

Also in this package was a pile of 1989 Upper Deck including a dozen Doug Dascenzo rookie cards. I love the look of the rookie cards in the inaugural Upper Deck set. Maybe it's the Ken Griffey Jr. effect making the rest of the rookies seem attractive.

Check the state of Maine off the list of Cubs senders early in the year. Thanks to David. He sent a new Ryne Sandberg. This is a Goudey-style Sandberg card from Baseball Cards Magazine.

David also sent a new Mark Grace card. It's a 1989 Fleer Baseball's Exciting Stars. It's one of the dozens of Fleer boxed sets the company pumped out in the 1980's.

A new Sammy Sosa card, and this image is odd. I love the smile and the thumbs up, but isn't the thumbs up in an odd spot. It covers his face.

Some big hitters arrived from just down the road in Dubuque, Iowa. Always love receiving Javier Baez baseball cards, especially when they are relics like this 2018 Topps Heritage jersey relic that includes a blue pinstripe.

An Adbert Alzolay 2018 Bowman Chrome 1st autograph.

Another 1st Bowman from Keegan Thompson. It's a purple refractor numbered 167/250.

The 2018 Topps Heritage set had super short print runs of magenta backs. When they were first released I bought a few blasters from Target. Somehow I MISSED a magenta back Red Sox Rookie Stars Rafael Devers. It sat untouched in the blaster box for weeks before I got down to sorting. Fortunately I found it and sold it on eBay for $125. Not bad for a retail hit. Here's a magenta back of the Cubs Rookie Stars that includes Jen-Ho Tseng, Dillon Maples, and Taylor Davis.

Finally, I love the Topps Triple Threads. Beautiful cards just like this Ben Zobrist autograph numbered 34/96.

What a nice mail day!
