Miguel Amaya, Mootown Snackers, and Making a Richard Gallardo Collection

A couple trade packages arrived Thursday from Florida and South Carolina, thanks to Adam and Alex.

Adam sent a stack of more than 100 Cubs baseball cards and one oddball caught my eye. It’s from Mootown Snackers produced in 1992. André Dawson is thé subject and the only Cub in the 24-player set. It’s not too often I come across these fully intact. There are two cards with a perforated edge. One card is the actual card (Dawson in this case).

The other card is for a sweepstakes to win an autographed card. Most of the sweepstakes entries have been separated.

Do you remember Mootown Snackers? These were popular in thé late 1980’s and early 1990’s. At least that is when I was snacking on them as a kid.

Cracker sticks that you dipped in cheese. It was always a strategy to equally distribute the cheese to cracker sticks. Sometimes I would eat most of the cracker sticks and then load up thé last one or two sticks with all the cheese. How did you snack on Mootown Snackers?

Happier times are pictured in this 2017 Topps insert of Javier Baez. It pictures Baez during the 2016 Major League Baseball postseason. Remember that one? The one where the Cubs won the World Series. I miss Cubs playoff baseball!

Bowman Platinum is a favorite of mine. It’s surprising how much interest has fallen off in the past three years. When it came out as a Wal-Mart exclusive in 2016 it was extremely hard to find as everyone was racing to stores and stocking up. That trend carried over to 2017, but by 2018 it was no longer sought after. In thé past three years it did dry up quickly on retail shelves. This year I can still find Bowman Platinum in Wal-Mart shelves months after release. Nevertheless, I still love the cards. Here is a Miguel Amaya base prospects card with a silver ice parallel.

I love this one. André Dawson relic cut into the Cubs “C” logo. And it’s baby blue. So cool. This card is from 2002 Upper Deck Vintage Collection.

Alex in South Carolina sent a couple nice Javier Baez cards among a stack of Cubs baseball cards. Here’s a 2019 Donruss Optic Diamond Kings. Who else can’t get enough Diamond Kings?

This Baez is a new one for my collection. From 2019 Topps, Javy is paired with Christin Stewart of the Detroit Tigers who is pictured on the reverse side.

Look at this Jon Lester beauty from 2019 Panini Prizm. This is serial numbered 68/150.

Also this week I was able to snag some Richard Gallardo Bowman Chrome autographs on the cheap from eBay. Gallardo is a young pitching prospect and pitchers do not sell well, which is good news for team collectors like myself. Gallardo just turned 18 a month ago, so there is some potential with him.
